Political concerns

I was struggling to find a current subject for my ‘Letter from America’. I have always avoided ‘politics’ as a subject and even more so as the current party in power seems to be making dramatic decisions without a clear purpose.

I am an American citizen and still retain my British citizenship. Quite frankly, I have always voted for the Democratic Party. I believe in democracy and accept the majority choices. I am unable to accept the current President and his bizarre decisions. I am astonished that he has been able to avoid the effects of his activities and even more astonished by the support of his current party members.

It is very clear that there are a large number of voters who do not make any effort to evaluate the candidates in any depth. ‘Once a Republican… always a Republican’ seems to be the basis of their voting decision. I have talked to many recent voters who automatically vote Republican without considering the actual process and current affairs.

The problem issues currently lead to current policies, which directly provide actions that benefit the extreme wealthy segment of the population. I can only hope and pray for improvement in the short term and a change of heart in the future.
