Intertek expands global inspection offering with real-time corrosion under insulation screening solution
30/04/2026
Intertek, a leading total quality assurance provider to industries worldwide, has expanded its service offering with the launch of real-time corrosion under insulation (CUI) screening results to help minimise industrial piping safety and production risks.
It is estimated that corrosion costs global industries trillions of dollars annually[1], with CUI representing a substantial portion of pipe maintenance costs for some companies. CUI, sometimes discovered only after damage has occurred, can lead to equipment failure, safety hazards, reduced production and more. Managing CUI can be costly because corrosion often cannot be identified unless piping insulation is removed and facilities cannot operate while insulation is removed and reapplied.
Intertek’s proactive CUI screening solution, delivered without the need to remove insulation, helps to significantly reduce safety and production risks while minimising costs. Utilising an established non-destructive testing method for real-time radiographic inspection of insulated piping, Intertek’s experienced CUI inspectors can screen hundreds of metres of insulated pipe within hours, identifying anomalies as small as 250 μm.
Intertek’s CUI screening can be combined with its other CUI management solutions such as moisture sensors and specific sizing techniques, as well as expert analysis and advice from Intertek CAPCIS, which has a global reputation as a leading authority in corrosion and materials assurance.
Sigve Barvik, Global Head of Advanced Digital Integrity Solutions, commented: “Safety, speed and cost-effectiveness are just some of the many benefits of our CUI screening solution. Intertek customers in a wide variety of industry sectors are seeing real-time high-resolution inspection results without costly preparation and production time losses. Our experts are giving them the insight they need to ensure asset safety.”
