2nd biennial ultrasonic testing (UT) competition
8-9 September 2026 The International Centre, Telford, UK
The 2nd Biennial Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Competition, organised by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), will take place on the 8 and 9 September 2026 at the International Centre, Telford, UK. The competition will be held on Stand E15 at the Materials Testing 2026 (MT 2026) exhibition and alongside NDT 2026, the Annual Conference of BINDT.
The deadline for the submission of applications for the 2nd Biennial Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Competition is Friday 17th July 2026.
The competition will comprise two rounds and be open to anyone interested in the UT method.
Round One – 8 September 2026The first round will be performed as a timed plate lamination/thickness evaluation and the top (judged on accuracy of thickness and extent) 20% of entrants will progress to round two.
Round Two – 9 September 2026
Round two will be performed as a timed weld inspection of a single-V butt-welded plate. The most accurate reported inspection will win the competition, with the runner-up receiving a prize.
The winner and runner-up will both receive an invite to the Conference Dinner on the evening of 9 September, as well as grand prize and runner-up prizes to be announced.
After the competition applications are received and reviewed, all participants will receive a link to complete the MT Exhibition registration. This will allow access to the hall for the event days. A discounted rate for the Wednesday Conference Dinner and Awards will also be offered to competition entrants. For further information, email: conf@bindt.org
