UT of composites training from Lavender

Lavender International has announced its new course in the ultrasonic inspection of composites, in preparation for over two years. Andy Young and Paul Jones have worked hard to determine the industry needs, to follow programmes on the construction of composites and to liaise with potential users to create this course.It will be a five-day course for technicians who are already Level 2 qualified in UT and will cover the product technology of basic composite structure manufacture, including the lay-up of laminate and sandwich structures, showing inherent manufacturing defects and potential defects associated with in-service materials. It will then look into the testing of composite materials, using coin tapping, tapping hammers and automated tapping (Woodpecker) techniques. Ultrasonic methods utilised on the course will include basic pulse-echo and through-transmission, along with equipment such as the ‘Dry Scan’ and ‘Rapid Scan’.
Lavender International has invested tens of thousands of pounds on testing equipment, samples and training of its own trainers to create a programme that is now approved by The British Institute of NDT’s ATO programme. The first course will be running from 10-14 September 2012 in the training room at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Technology Centre, Brunel Way, Catcliffe, Rotherham S60 5WG.
