Taking AGR equipment to the limit

16/03/2011

NDT can be a harsh industry. Technicians are often subjected to difficult, even dangerous environments; too hot, extreme cold, higher than most care to climb, enclosed and claustrophobic spaces, dangerously gaseous and chemical atmospheres – all are part of the daily NDT experience.

Consequently, equipment is also subjected to these extreme conditions and expected to stand up reasonably well in order to complete the task at hand.

On a recent project in the rain forests of Brazil, an AGR TD Focus-Scan was photographed shortly after it was doused in sticky mud by a passing excavator. The technician simply wiped it clean and carried on working regardless. The irony of the picture is, however, the umbrella pole; this extra layer of protection was apparently inadequate on the day!
