This role combines practical inspection work with responsibility for certification control, measurement equipment calibration and supporting ongoing improvement initiatives within the quality function.

The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting incoming, in-process and returned goods to ensure compliance with AMOT requirements, alongside supporting inspection delivery, managing equipment calibration and certification records and driving continuous improvement across quality assurance (QA) activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Inspect and transact mechanical and electronic goods into the company in a timely manner using the company’s computerised business system
  • Perform quality inspections, tests, full dimensioning reports regarding goods-in parts, finished products, production defects, stock and returned goods. Inspection tests may include positive material identification (PMI), non-destructive testing (NDT), hardness, spring load and others
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, supplier technical material certificates and test reports in compliance with AMOT requirements and international standards
  • Log, control and ensure traceability of certificates in the database
  • Conduct first article inspection for new or critical parts compiling measurement, materials, key performance indicators (KPIs) and other drawing mandates into a report for production approval, quality plan or nuclear reports
  • Manage and certify that the company’s measurement equipment is as per specification and ensure its calibration prior to maintenance date
  • Manage and conduct outside inspection witness tests, liaising with notified bodies/certification agencies and customer inspectors
  • Respond to change productively and seek to continuously improve the quality department and processes in goods-inwards inspection/outside inspection areas with a strong 5S sense
  • Perform any other duties as they may be required and requested
  • Keep abreast of changes to company policies and procedures and AMOT terms and conditions, ensuring they are adhered to and met.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE or equivalent in mathematics/science
  • Mechanical/electrical engineering apprenticeship
  • An engineering degree would be considered an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years’ quality inspection/engineering experience and the use of general metrology equipment found in a light engineering environment (includes height gauges, verniers, etc).
    Knowledge and skills:
  • Competent in the use of mechanical inspection equipment, gauges and use of a FaroArm, with ISO 9001 quality and internal audit skills; casting/machining experience is an advantage
  • Demonstrated strong and effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills at all levels, including customer/supplier facing
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritise and work accurately, both independently and as part of a team, to meet tight deadlines, while effectively managing and negotiating QA inspection work activities in a shop floor environment
  • MS Office experience is required, with excellent quality engineering skills, experience of problem-solving and 5 whys/8D report creation. A working knowledge of material requirements planning (MRP) is a plus
  • Knowledge of the valve, casting and machining industry is beneficial.
