15/06/2017 BINDT Survey 2016 – the results are in…
The British Institute of NDT’s 2016 Membership Survey aimed to understand how and why BINDT members and others engage with the Institute, to gauge how members rate the services it offers and to find out how important these services are to them in their professional lives. It also offered participants the opportunity to tell BINDT what it should do to improve the products and services it provides. The survey received 725 responses in total, of which 70% were from members of the Institute.

Sonaspection International has opened an NDT training centre at its manufacturing facility just outside of Charlotte, in Concord, North Carolina, USA.

13/06/2017 Continuing professional development – its role in enhancing competence
Even when fully qualified, an NDT engineer or technician should ensure that his or her knowledge is kept up to date. This may be achieved by attending courses, seminars or conferences. A carefully thought-out process of continuing professional development (CPD) is the key to success. CPD is the systematic acquisition of knowledge and skills and the development of personal qualities to maintain and enhance professional competence.

12/06/2017 Increased numbers for BINDT Affiliate Membership
In January 2016, the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) introduced a new membership structure developed to meet the demand for simplified pathways into membership for those with roles in NDT and condition monitoring (CM) that are more functional than academic, such as practitioners and engineers. One result of the restructure included the ‘Student’ and ‘Affiliate’ member grades being combined into one ‘Affiliate’ member grade. This created an option for PCN certificate holders to join the Institute at the non-voting grade of ‘Affiliate Member’ at no charge.

GB Inspection Systems Ltd has announced that it is IBG NDT System’s new exclusive distribution partner for the UK and Ireland. This agreement was formalised on 8 March 2017 at GB Inspection Systems’ premises.

05/06/2017 Rented NDT equipment meets emergency demand
Following an emergency Friday afternoon call from Lavender International, an Olympus Nortec 600 eddy current flaw detector from Ashtead Technology was rushed to Sheffield to support a non-destructive testing (NDT) training course that was due to take place the following week. The equipment arrived just in time and the two-week course, Level 2 Eddy Current Testing of Welds, was able to proceed for the 13 registered trainees.

TSC has significantly contributed in shaping the landscape of electromagnetic testing technologies over the last 30 years. The company developed the field-proven ACFM® technology with support from BP, BG Group, Conoco and Shell, which were keen to significantly improve the reliability of underwater inspections, reduce operator dependence and provide auditable inspection records.
