Growth planned as Peak NDT joins TBAT Innovation Group

01/03/2017

Midlands-based advanced engineering company Peak NDT has become part of the TBAT Innovation Group in a move to prepare for significant growth with the launch of several new advanced engineering products. Simon Parke joins Peak NDT as Managing Director and Paul McConaghie as Operations Manager, bringing TBAT Innovation’s expertise to the ten-strong team of engineers and product designers at the Jubilee Business Park. Peak NDT founders Andy and Alison Whittle will work alongside Simon and Paul to provide technical expertise and customer support.

Peak NDT is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of ultrasonic non-destructive testing equipment used in advanced engineering sectors such as aerospace, oil & gas, marine and power generation. The equipment is used in the rigorous and highly-regulated checks for any defects in complex manufactured components. Peak’s MicroPulse 5 systems are now in regular use by leading NDT inspection companies in the aerospace, oil & gas, power generation and nuclear sectors, within high-value manufacturing production inspection systems, and are used at a number of world-leading research institutes. The MicroPulse is one of the principal systems used for the automated ultrasonic inspections carried out by EDF Energy on all of the UK’s civil nuclear power generation plant.

TBAT Innovation has worked closely with Peak in the development of its technology for over 14 years. The niche consultancy, headquartered in Castle Donington, secured government-funded support and grant funding for Peak and is now engaging fully to support the growth of the company following the completion of several development programmes, which will add new products to Peak’s MicroPulse range.

Andy Whittle, co-founder of Peak NDT,  said: “Joining the TBAT Innovation Group will allow us to build on our success and grow the company while protecting the strong ties with our existing customers and our focus on support. TBAT will be providing additional operational and management expertise at this time of growth and as we finalise the launch of new products. This new arrangement with TBAT Innovation also provides me with more time to focus on continuing the development of the MicroPulse family. The worldwide demand for this equipment is growing, especially in new industries and in new inspection applications. We want to continue our successful track record as innovators and grow the business at the same time.”

Simon Parke, the new Peak NDT Managing Director, said: “We have worked with Peak for a number of years and this is a company and technology that we have always admired. We are delighted to be working with Andy and his team to provide additional management and operational support. In order to be ready for business growth, we are already looking to expand the team over the next few months.”

In 2010, the company invested £600,000 in a move to purpose-built premises in Derby and in 2011 it was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Innovation for the design and continued development of the MicroPulse 5 series of ultrasonic NDT controllers.
