Ilika’s solid-state battery concludes wind blade trial
13/05/2020

The trial, carried out recently, showed that the Stereax solid-state battery can be charged by energy harvested from blade vibrations and, in turn, can power condition monitoring sensors and LoRa communication.
The wireless sensor device, powered by the battery, performs autonomous structural condition monitoring of the blades in order to detect early signs of damage and allow operators to better predict maintenance needs. It was developed by Ilika together with China-based turbine manufacturer Titan Wind Energy, in partnership with the University of Chester and Aston University.
