UK companies may qualify for M4B funding from NPL
25/10/2024
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has launched Measurement for Business (M4B) to give companies access to its specialist measurement science and engineering experts and facilities, at no charge, to help businesses grow.
NPL’s expertise can accelerate a product or service getting to market. Its measurement experts can give confidence in data that will open doors with potential investors.
To be considered for M4B, companies must be a UK-registered small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) at Companies House, have a product or service that is pre-market, be within minimal financial assistance allocation (previously referred to as special drawing rights) of less than £315,000 of government funding over a rolling three-year financial period and have a measurement problem that cannot be solved by routine measurement and test services available commercially from NPL or other suppliers.
M4B is currently open to applications from SMEs who fit either of the following criteria: any sector within the Greater Manchester and Yorkshire regions or SMEs developing semiconductor technology or green technology and developing and applying engineering biology technologies.
Successful applications for M4B funding will receive access to world-leading NPL experts and facilities, tailored to the company’s needs, for up to a maximum of 20 days at no charge. This gives companies the opportunity to investigate the feasibility of innovative products and services and accelerate a product’s progress along the development pathway by giving increased confidence in data to validate performance and demonstrate adherence to standards, supporting decision- making and reducing risk with trusted data from NPL.
This programme does not support routine measurement and test services available commercially from NPL or other suppliers.
NPL is the UK’s National Metrology Institute (NMI), developing and maintaining the national primary measurement standards, as well as collaborating with other NMIs to maintain the international system of measurement. As a public sector research establishment, the company delivers extraordinary impact by providing the measurement capability that underpins the UK’s prosperity and quality of life.
