Moughton Engineering Ltd is looking to recruit a CSWIP 3.1 Senior Weld Inspector. The successful candidate will play a key role within the quality department, checking and monitoring in-house fabrications and subassemblies against the relevant documented specifications throughout the manufacturing process and inspecting work produced primarily in the fabrication shop and occasionally in other departments of the company. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge and experience in fabrication/welding (with experience within the energy sector being advantageous), along with support from the company to work towards CSWIP 3.2.

The role:

  • Evaluate and interpret reports from various non-destructive testing (NDT) method
  • Encourage positive, open discussion on any deficiencies, safety and quality specifications, making recommendations to improve processes and methods where identified
  • As the company fosters a fast-paced working environment, this position therefore requires the successful candidate to be proactive, methodical and communicative
  • Responsibility for setting the quality/welding standards within the department and ensuring quality is maintained
  • Raise NDT reports
  • Check weld set-ups
  • Dimensional check, tack-up and final fabrications for release
  • Achieve high efficiency (planned versus actual hours) for the department
  • Ensure that welding procedures and staff training/testing for required materials are constantly reviewed and updated
  • Ensure documentation is completed for all work carried out, for example weld mapping, welding procedure specification (WPS) creation, history sheets, consumable control and all setting and weld data for traceability, etc
  • Complete all necessary documentation and ensure it is in place according to the requirements
  • Ensure job tasks are carried out safely using good working practices targeting zero lost-time accidents
  • Ensure systems are maintained and ready for audits.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Knowledge of welding procedures, welder approvals and various welding defects
  • Knowledge of steel metallurgy
  • The ability to work to, and ensure compliance with, complex specifications and standards
  • The ability to read and interpret technical fabrication drawings
  • The ability to maintain product traceability and compliance to required standards
  • Possess good IT skills (Excel, Word). Produce inspection reports for products, clearly highlighting any potential/actual non-conformances
  • Be highly motivated, flexible, responsive to change and calm under pressure
  • Experience working in both manufacturing and off-site environments
  • Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) certification or willingness to gain via a TWI interview
  • CSWIP 3.1 minimum
  • Experience working in a lead/supervisory role
  • Trained on all aspects of welding equipment
  • Knowledge of ASME or BS standards
  • The ability to read technical drawings
  • Teamwork and motivation
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft software).

Daily functions:

  • Perform basic duties on a daily/weekly basis. This will expand to capture company requirements as and when they arise
  • Create project documentation, welding, NDT documentation, data logging, etc
  • Management of welding qualifications
  • Conduct internal audits of welders and procedures
  • Perform visual inspection on welded products and structures for in-progress and completed jobs
  • Perform dimensional checks and weld set-ups
  • Ensure that welders adhere to health & safety regulations
  • Ensure that welders are working within the range of WPSs
  • Ensure that quality documents are recorded correctly and kept up to date
  • Assist with the completion of technical specification packs
  • Be responsible for final quality inspections and sign-off approvals
  • Attend on-site installation projects to assist with inspection duties when required.

Salary and benefits:

  • This position offers a basic 38-hour week (early finish on a Friday)
  • The salary is dependent on experience
  • 23 days’ annual leave, excluding bank holidays
