A leading UK-based manufacturer and front-line supplier of powertrain products is seeking an NDT Inspector for a temporary to permanent contract (13 weeks).

Position summary:
The NDT Inspector must be qualified to set up and calibrate equipment and interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards and specifications. They must also be familiar with the scope and limitations of the method of NDT being used and should exercise assigned responsibility for on-the-job training and guidance of assistants.

Key duties:
  • Set up and calibrate NDT equipment
  • Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using non-destructive methods of inspection
  • Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results
  • Organise and report test results
  • Perform specialised inspections
  • Possibly instruct and supervise others
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by management
  • Interface daily with the client about work priorities and the progress of projects
  • Participate in client programmes, planning and strategy sessions
  • Work closely with clients to identify and remove obstacles
  • Actively participate in client safety initiatives, incident investigations, etc
  • Mentor trainees/apprentices if applicable
  • Work to and support all relevant 5S activities
  • Follow instructions provided by line managers
  • Ensure that waste is disposed of in the correct manner
  • Follow relevant working instructions/process plans/drawings, etc
  • Report any near misses
  • Maintain a good level of attendance at work.

  • NDT Level 1/Level 2 certification.

Skills, knowledge and experience:
  • The ability to understand the technology and apply the tools at hand to maximise the efficiency and quality of inspections
  • The ability to speak and write clearly and informatively and respond well to questions
  • The ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and look for ways to improve and promote quality, as well as the ability to approach/evaluate a problem from many angles.

The role will involve a 44-hour week, with an early finish at 1.30 pm on Fridays.
