His original research and development achievements span a broad spectrum within the topic of control systems, mechatronics, intelligent systems, and fault diagnosis with applications such as vehicles, robotics and manufacturing systems.

Professor Karimi is an Ordinary Member of Academia Europa, Distinguished Fellow of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV), Fellow of The International Society for Condition Monitoring (ISCM), Member of Agder Academy of Science and Letters and also a member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Mechatronic Systems, the IFAC Technical Committee on Robust Control and the IFAC Technical Committee on Automotive Control. He is serving as Chief Editor, Subject Editor, Technical Editor or Associate Editor for some International Journals and Book Series Editor for Springer, CRC Press and Elsevier.

Professor Karimi has been awarded as the 2016-2021 Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering, the 2020 IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award, August-Wilhelm-Scheer Visiting Professorship Award, JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Research Award, and Alexander-von-Humboldt-Stiftung research Award, for instance. He has also participated as general chair, keynote/plenary speaker, distinguished speaker or program chair for several international conferences in the areas of control systems, robotics and mechatronics.

Dr Jérôme Lacaille

Jérôme Lacaille is an expert emeritus at Safran Aircraft Engines whose successive missions have been to develop an algorithmic environment for prognostic and health monitoring (PHM) of engines, the creation of a DataLab for the analysis of company data and the animation of a mathematics, data analysis and scientific computing business network.

Doctor in mathematics, authorised to direct research and a former normalien agrégé in mathematics, Jérôme supervises a team of doctoral students within the company and continues to teach at the university.

Member of the board (ex-vice-president) of the Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SMAI), as well as of numerous other academic committees, Jérôme assumes the role of scientific ambassador for Safran.

Dr Richard Lane

Dr Richard Lane is a principal scientist and chartered engineer with twenty years’ experience in applying statistical and signal processing techniques to defence and security problems. He holds a 1st class MEng in engineering science from Oxford University and an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) from University College London, on “Bayesian super-resolution with application to radar target recognition”. Richard was awarded the John Benjamin Memorial Prize for his work on maritime anomaly detection and threat assessment culminating in a demo involving 1000s of tracks with millions of track points. More recently, Richard has been the technical leader of several projects involving the development and use of advanced tracking algorithms, statistical analysis, time series analysis, machine learning and deep learning. Richard has written over 90 journal and conference papers, patents and technical reports; regularly acts as a reviewer for journals from the IET and IEEE, and was chairman of the Mathematics in Defence conference series for 4 years.
