In this article, Neil Harrap, the company’s NDT Market Manager, highlights some of the inspection technologies that are most popular within the metal products manufacturing sector. He explains how the addition of the latest ultrasonic inspection technology to the company’s fleet of rental instruments means that engineers now have access to the latest flaw detection and thickness measurement equipment, in addition to other key technologies, such as visual inspection instruments and positive material identification (PMI) equipment.

10/02/2014 Educational charity seeks students to attend Materials for Energy course

Independent educational charity The Smallpeice Trust has recently launched a new course timetable for 2014 and is seeking hundreds of 12 to 17 year old students to sample its engineering taster courses. Any student can apply to attend a wide range of subsidised residential courses, which take place at universities nationwide. Subjects include 3D printing technology, aerospace engineering, electronics with cyber security, nuclear engineering, renewable energy and structural engineering. These are designed for students with an interest or natural flair in science, maths, design or technology, with a view to encouraging them to consider a career in engineering.

07/02/2014 Official opening of Lavender’s new UT training suite

As part of an expansion programme, Lavender International has invested in a new suite of offices and workshops to accommodate all of its ultrasonic training programmes. Since September 2013, the company has been gradually consolidating its UT programmes to the new site at the Technology Centre, Advanced Manufacturing Park, Brunel Way, Rotherham, South Yorkshire S60 5WG. Now, all the manual UT courses operate alongside phased array and time-of-flight diffraction courses. As well as all the expected high-quality equipment and samples, the company has also invested in top-spec display screens, including some with innovative touch-screens that integrate directly with the UT sets for a better training experience.
