13/08/2015 Rising numbers for BINDT Aerospace events
In April 2015 at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield, the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) Aerospace Committee held its most successful Aerospace Event (formerly the Aerospace Forum) to date. With over 122 delegates at the event itself, plus additional visitors to the one-day exhibition, the event organisers, participants and Institute as a whole were extremely pleased with the success of the event, particularly as it has progressed so rapidly over such a small period of time.

10/08/2015 Bloodhound SSC’s fuel tank undergoes non-destructive testing
In 2016, the Bloodhound SuperSonic Car (SSC) will attempt to match or exceed 1000 mph in order to achieve a new land-speed record. Before the record is attempted, a number of test-firings will take place in the UK using the high-test peroxide (HTP) fuel tank designed and manufactured by ABC Stainless Ltd, a Peterborough-based fabrication company. A vessel such at this, designed with pressure-containing welds on the exterior, must be tested for defects prior to use; a crucial step in ensuring the integrity of the tank before it is put under any pressure.

07/08/2015 LEP deal launches plans for large-scale test facility at TWI
Plans to expand TWI capabilities in large-scale engineering testing have been boosted with the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) awarding the organisation £1.75 m from the Government’s Growth Deal to develop new capabilities at its laboratories at Granta Park, Cambridge.

Pipelines International magazine Editor-in-Chief John Tiratsoo officially opened the new extension to the company offices in front of staff and specially-invited industry colleagues. The additional floor space contains a training suite, reception area and a number of meeting rooms. In addition, and in keeping with MACAW’s environmental policy, the firm has supplied a custom-built changing room complete with showers for those staff who regularly cycle to work.
