23/12/2015 New year: new membership structure for BINDT
In 2013, the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) initiated a working group to review its current membership structure. The objectives of the group were to increase the inclusiveness of BINDT membership and to simplify the structure. As a result, a new streamlined model was developed to meet the needs of pathways into membership for practitioners, scientists/engineers and non-technical persons working in NDT.

Eddyfi has announced the expansion of its family of DefHi array probes for tubing inspection. The company has improved and expanded the selection of heavy wall (HW) DefHi probes to offer superior coverage and penetration in very-low-frequency applications (4 kHz to 60 kHz), such as brass and cupronickel tubing.

07/12/2015 DolphiTech starts delivery of NDT systems to Volkswagen Group and Audi
DolphiTech has announced the start of delivery of DolphiCam ultrasound NDT inspection systems to Volkswagen Group and Audi. The system will be used for damage inspection of automotive carbon fibre (CFRP) primary structures in collision centres worldwide.

04/12/2015 Time to tackle ethnic diversity in engineering, says Academy
While many UK engineering companies are already well engaged in driving better gender balance in the engineering profession, more work is needed in promoting ethnicity/race, sexual orientation and disability diversity, according to two new reports published by the Royal Academy of Engineering. The recommendations were discussed with representatives of many of the UK’s best-known engineering companies at a launch event at The Crystal, Royal Victoria Dock.

BINDT member Martin Mienczakowski, Research Associate in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) of Composites at the University of Bristol, has succeeded in breaking the Guinness World Record for the furthest distance travelled on a space hopper in 24 hours, to raise awareness and vital funds for the Stroke Association.

01/12/2015 Argyll-Ruane marks its 50,000th PCN exam
Based at the newly-opened Engineering Training Centre in Sheffield, Argyll-Ruane’s (ARL) NDT Examination department processed its 50,000th PCN exam on 5 November 2015. Over the last 30 years, Argyll-Ruane has built a successful global network of training partners to deliver a trusted and world-class service in examination services to complement its NDT and inspection training and Level 3 consultancy services.
