19/11/2015 Inspection and reporting much faster with CNC laser scanning
A significant increase in orders for the supply of prototype pressings and bracketry, notably from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), has prompted Birmingham Prototypes to install two multi-sensor coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) from Nikon Metrology. The goal was not only to measure the sheet metal parts more quickly but, more importantly, to speed up subsequent report generation. The investment has also resulted in the establishment of a new subcontract service offering laser scanning and inspection work.

13/11/2015 North Star Imaging UK hosts successful laboratory open day
North Star Imaging (NSI) UK recently held its official open day to introduce potential customers to the company’s X-ray and computed tomography systems and inspection services laboratory in High Wycombe, United Kingdom. The successful event was visited by representatives from the aerospace, automotive, medical device, electronic and university sectors. Attendees were given the opportunity to see a demonstration of the capabilities of NSI’s digital X-ray and computed tomography equipment as well as a factory tour and demonstration of Instron’s tensile/compression testing equipment.

Vibration measurement and analysis of extremely small and lightweight systems that would be impossible with traditional accelerometer-based techniques is handled well by the non-contact laser doppler vibrometers at the Advanced Structural Dynamics Evaluation Centre (ASDEC), as demonstrated in a recent piece of work with the Space Research Centre at the University of Leicester.
