
This year's Materials Testing Exhibition, organised by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) and held at the International Centre, Telford, from 8-10 September, presented record numbers of visitors with unique opportunities to view and assess the latest technologies, source new contacts, meet industry colleagues and keep up-to-date with the state-of-the-art innovations in NDT and condition monitoring. This year's event saw a 23% increase in visitor numbers over the last one in the series, which took place two years ago at the same venue.

Accelerated practical work experience in accordance with PCN (EN ISO 9712) is now available at Lavender International. Candidates who have successfully completed the PCN MT Level 2 course and exam, but do not have the work experience necessary for eligibility for certification, qualify for the new Lavender International initiative. Under a procedure approved by PCN and in accordance with EN ISO 9712, a candidate can attend the Lavender MT work experience programme for nine days and this is recognised as being equivalent to a maximum of two months (50%) of the total work experience requirement.

Industrial radiography involves the use of
industrial X-ray sets and/or high-activity gamma radiation sources to
carry out NDT of welds or for determining structural or
pressure-retaining integrity. The high-intensity radiation sources used
can pose a significant risk to those carrying out the work as well as
others who may be in the vicinity.

Ashtead Technology will use the BINDT Materials Testing 2015 event as an opportunity to celebrate the second anniversary of its NDT Centre of Excellence. Over the past two years, Ashtead has invested over £1.5 m in the resource, which has allowed it to add over 300 new items to its fleet, including the Olympus OmniScan MX2 and Eddyfi Ectane. The investment also allowed Ashtead to upgrade the existing fleet of ultrasonic and eddy current flaw detectors, thickness gauges, hardness testers and scanners.
