The AcoustoCam i600 uses only a single
ultrasonic transducer to provide an image with which even the unskilled
eye can easily identify a defect! Being a peak detection system, the
AcoustoCam i600 displays great results on composites as thin as 0.05
inches (1.27 mm) and up to 3 inches (76 mm), depending on the material’s

The University of Leicester launched the £2.5 million Advanced Structural Dynamics Evaluation Centre (ASDEC) in July 2014 – the UK’s first commercial robotised 3D scanning laser vibration measurement and modal analysis centre providing advanced vibration consultancy. The laser Doppler vibrometer (Robovib) technology that is employed at ASDEC gives distinct benefits of speed, accuracy and volume of measurements over traditional methods.

Since the new owners took over in October 2012, GB Inspection Systems (GBIS) has been adding staff and purchasing new equipment to meet increased demand in sales and service. As part of its commitment to investing in excellence and improving customer service, GBIS has purchased a much larger property in Burntwood, Staffordshire, to facilitate continued growth and enhance its manufacturing, R&D
and service departments’ capability and flexibility. The company is planning a move date of April 2015.

The report identifies current opportunities and challenges for the NDT community in the UK and lists four primary areas where key enabling actions are required for the growth of the NDT industry in the UK. One of these primary areas is ‘people’.

Industry is well aware of the NDT technologies available to monitor everything from a single bearing to a multi-story building, in order to detect irregularities that may indicate a defect or weakness that requires further investigation. There are a multitude of manufacturers out there providing state-of-the-art hardware and software packages that should allow us to monitor almost anything and prevent unexpected failures. TEST NDT has recently completed its 100th week of formal training for the inspection of wind energy structures. These specialised training courses were initially developed almost 10 years ago following a request from a major wind turbine blade manufacturer for the development of a specialised training curriculum for the inspectors of composite blades of wind turbines.
