The National Physical Laboratory’s (NPL) inspection facility in Huddersfield is expanding the range of services on offer to local manufacturing businesses, following a hugely successful first year. The laboratory allows companies to access world-leading measurement expertise in areas central to innovation, safety and efficiency in manufacturing. The service has proven so successful that a wide range of new state-of-the-art equipment has been acquired to expand capabilities and help meet the rising demand.

11/07/2014 Technology Design in Bordeaux
An informal invitation from Anne-Marie Roy, Vice President of the French Federation for NDT (COFREND), at the BINDT exhibition in 2013 resulted in Technology Design (TD) presenting its products as an independent exhibitor at the COFREND exhibition at the Palais des Congrès, Bordeaux, in May 2014. The prime location of TD’s booth ensured a steady progression of visitors from many industrial sectors and countries, including several French-speaking North African regions. Somewhat apprehensive at the possible language barrier, the exhibition team found that they were able to communicate with most visitors quite well, even in the absence of a conversationally-common language.

07/07/2014 Two-day Eclipse Scientific high-temperature equipment open days at Rigmar Training Centre
Mid-May saw Pete Burrows from Baugh & Weedon NDE head to Aberdeen to demonstrate the Eclipse Scientific high-temperature equipment. Rigmar Training Centre was kind enough to host the demonstration event over two days and provide Pete with a safe environment in which to use a hot plate to highlight the advantages of the Eclipse high-temperature scanner and probe.

01/07/2014 BP joins TWI in UK’s first industry-led postgraduate engineering education centre
BP, one of the world’s leading exploration and production organisations, has signed an agreement with TWI to become a Founder Sponsor of the newly-established Structural Integrity Research Foundation (SIRF). SIRF is the funding body behind the new industry-led research centre for postgraduate engineering education, the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRCTM), which is currently under construction in Cambridge.
