Internet of Things

IoT – the Internet of Things is the connection of devices to the internet, so that they can communicate with each other, applications and ourselves. In the home, these devices can be smart heating controllers that can be switched on and off remotely. Other domestic IoT applications include fridges that notify the owners when foodstuffs are running low and weighing scales that connect to apps for monitoring trends.

From a non-destructive testing (NDT) point of view, the full possibilities of the IoT have yet to be realised, but flaw detectors that can connect to the internet allow data to be transferred for full analysis back at base.
