AP1000®

AP1000® is a registered trademark of the Westinghouse Electric Company LLC. The AP1000 is an updated design of a pressurised water reactor, which improves upon the established technology of major components used in current Westinghouse-designed plants. Due to these improvements, the AP1000 is classified as a generation III+ reactor. It has a nominal net electrical power output of approximately 1110 MWe. The AP1000 reactor is the only generation III+ reactor design to obtain design certification and a construction and operating license from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Four AP1000 reactors are under construction at Zhejiang and Shandong in China and four are under construction at Burke County, Georgia, and Fairfield County, South Carolina, in the USA. NuGen plans to build three AP1000 reactors at Moorside in West Cumbria. NuGen is a UK nuclear company and a joint venture between Toshiba and ENGIE (formerly GDF SUEZ).
