Compact Tension

CT – A Compact Tension specimen is a standard design of mechanical testing specimen that is used for establishing the fracture toughness value of a material. The two holes are used to apply a tensile load to the specimen. The notch is designed to be the initiation point for the generation of a fatigue crack. The dimensions of the CT specimen are defined in relevant international standards. The compact nature of the CT specimen means that it is an efficient use of available material.
