Full Matrix Capture
FMC – Full Matrix Capture is a technique for capturing all possible ultrasonic data from a phased array probe. Each element is fired in turn and the received signal is recorded at each of the other elements for each firing. The Figure shows element 1 firing and data collected on elements 2 to n, where n is the total number of elements in the array.
So FMC collects the complete dataset of time-domain signals from every transmitter-receiver pair combination of elements in the array. This means that all the information exists to undertake subsequent processing of the data to generate an image.
